An Experimental Study of the Drag of Rigid Models Representing Two Parachute Designs
نویسنده
چکیده
The flow about, and drag of, two types of parachute canopy have been examined at supersonic speeds at zero incidence, in isolation and in the presence of rigging lines, and behind bodies of revolution. The investigation has shown that the presence of rigging lines reduces the canopy drag by an extent dependent upon the length of the lines. Several different flom regimes are encountered similar to those noted during investigations with spikes on bluff bodies, including an o:cillatoqy condition when the lines are short, The presence of the body of revolution, either a cone-cylinder or a blunt cone, gives a low parachute drag when located close to the canopy. Conically rigged parachutes behind cone-cylinder of base diameter half that of the canopy 5.2.2 Cylindrically rigged Taylor parachute behind a blunted cone of same base diameter as the canopy maximum CONCLUSIONS 6.1

Fitting Second-order Models to Mixed Two-level and Four-level Factorial Designs: Is There an Easier Procedure?
Fitting response surface models is usually carried out using statistical packages to solve complicated equations in order to produce the estimates of the model coefficients. This paper proposes a new procedure for fitting response surface models to mixed two-level and four-level factorial designs. New and easier formulae are suggested to calculate the linear, quadratic and the interaction coeff...
متن کاملSEISMIC OPTIMIZATION OF STEEL MOMENT RESISTING FRAMES CONSIDERING SOIL-STRUCTURE INTERACTION
The main purpose of the present work is to investigate the impact of soil-structure interaction on performance-based design optimization of steel moment resisting frame (MRF) structures. To this end, the seismic performance of optimally designed MRFs with rigid supports is compared with that of the optimal designs with a flexible base in the context of performance-based design. Two efficient me...
متن کاملStress Distribution in Natural Tooth and Implant Supported Removable Partial Denture with Different Attachment Types: A Photoelastic Analysis
Background and Aim: Different attachment designs have been developed to connect implant to natural teeth in partial dentures; however, adequate studies have not been performed to determine stress distribution patterns in these designs. The present study aimed to assess stress distribution patterns in natural tooth and implant supported removable partial denture with different attachment designs...
متن کاملAnalytical analysis of ultimate ground pressure on tunnel support system
The ground reaction curve (GRC) is a vital component of the convergence-confinement method, which possesses many applications in the underground space designs. It defines a relation between the tunnel wall deformations and the ground pressure acting on the tunnel walls. Generally, GRC includes descending and ascending branches. According to many researchers, the descending branch trend for the ...

In the following paper, the effects of a choked jet exhausted from the base of a non-lifting body on its total and base drags at sub-sonic and transonic regimes has been numerically investigated. Having surveyed the results of some turbulence models and after comparing with experimental results, an appropriate turbulence model i.e. SST K-?, has been chosen and this model has been used in the su...
